YLD BUSHKILL FALLS OUTING

On October 4, 2003, the YLD sponsored a day of fun and food at Bushkill Falls. A special thanks goes out to District Justice Charlie Eyer who graciously donated all of the passes. We are hopeful of return engagements (with better weather) in the years to come.

While the sun was hidden for most of the day, the falls were fabulous.

A rainy summer produced overflowing waterfalls.
The event was open to all YLD members and their families and the attendees feasted upon a hot BBQ lunch.

ANNUAL BLOOD DRIVE

On Monday, December 10th, 2007, the Young Lawyers Division of the Monroe County Bar Association sponsored their Annual Red Cross Blood Drive in memory of Phil V. Mattes III. Phil was a long time blood donor and a founding member of the Young Lawyers Division of the Lackawanna Bar Association.

Able assistance was provided by volunteer Attorneys Rebecca Craggs Young, Christine Tartamella, Rebecca and long time Red Cross Volunteer.

The Blood Drive was held at the First Presbyterian Church, 575 Main Street, Stroudsburg.

First time blood donor Jessica Verdecchio survived the "Vampires". Of course, the cookies and juice offer a sweet celebration and you feel soooooooo good knowing you have saved a life.

PROJECT KIDCARE A HUGE SUCCESS

On Saturday, January 24th, 2009 from 10:00AM until 3:00PM in the Stroudsburg High School Cafeteria, the Young Lawyers Division (YLD) of the Monroe County Bar Association, provided parents with free photo identification booklets for their children. This effort was part of the national Project KidCare, a program that was developed jointly by Polaroid Corporation and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

Project KidCare is a national child photo identification and safety education program that was developed jointly by Polaroid Corporation and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The objectives of the program are to increase awareness about the issue of missing and exploited children and to educate parents and children about the ways they can protect themselves.

Our attorneys take their work (volunteer work that is) very seriously. That is NO clown but our own 2009 YLD President, Attorney James Theodore "Teddy" Michel ably assisted by one of the FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) students of Stroudsburg High School.

PROJECT KIDCARE 2002
September 21, 2002, during the United Way’s Super Saturday celebration in downtown Stroudsburg, the Young Lawyers Division (YLD) of the Monroe County Bar Association, in cooperation with the Stroud Area Regional Police, provided parents with over 110 free photo identification booklets for their children.
Attorney Nicholas C. Haros, President of the YLD, remarked, “With this summer’s rash of child abductions, it is more important than ever for parents to keep personal safety documents for their children. A KidCare Photo Id booklet provides authorities with a crucial tool in helping recover a missing child.” The Photo ID booklets, which were developed with input from law enforcement officials, doctors and health officials, will provide parents with a high quality color photograph of the child as well as the child’s historical and descriptive information. The booklets also include directions on how to be prepared in case of an emergency and “Seven Rules for Safety,” which should be reviewed regularly with the child. Additionally, Detective Bill Parrish and Officer Doug Weiss created fingerprint records for the parents.

Haros observed, “The parents were really appreciative. They knew that the identification booklets could make the difference in recovering a lost child.”
