Stepping Out
The Stepping Out program is sponsored
by the Monroe County Bar Foundation and the Pennsylvania Bar Association.
Members of the Monroe County Bar Association volunteer to visit
the classrooms of twelfth grade students to lead a discussion focused
on the rights and responsibilities of becoming an adult member of
the community.
An informational booklet is distributed to each student. The booklet answers questions on newly acquired rights after turning 18 years old. For example, How do you borrow money? How can you avoid problems with an apartment lease? Where do you go to vote?
The articles in Stepping Out are arranged with a view toward four kinds of relationships:
- contractual (Promises, Promises)
- personal (Close to Home)
- adversarial (Getting Stuck and Unstuck)
- the individual in a motion (Making It Work).
