The First Lady of Pennsylvania Visits Stroudsburg Junior High School in Support of Civic Education

February 1, 2006
First Lady of PA, Marjorie O. Rendell was greeted by teachers, students and administrators from the Stroudsburg Area School District. Rendell was here to promote a proclamation that was passed in the commonwealth on the importance of civic education as part of a program called PennCord. The proclamation is part of the district's commitment that helps prepare students to become active participants in America's democracy.
The Hon. Linda Wallach Miller, Court of Common Pleas of Monroe County Forty-Third Judicial District Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and President of the Monroe County Bar Association, Joseph P. McDonald, Jr., Esq. welcome First Lady Rendell and support her efforts.
Many students studied the Constitution by reviewing and discussing Supreme Court decisions as they related to schools and the educational system. Topics of sexual harassment, the Bill of Rights and the First Amendment provided lively debate and raised the conscientiousness of the students.
